Macmillan Coffee Morning…

Apple House care home joined in the fundraising fun by hosting a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.  The home raised £25 and our organisation matched this and raised it to £50!  Well done residents, staff and families at Apple House care home! Bushcraft…

Personal integration with nature and the earth – the bushcraft way.  We are delighted to announce that we have commissioned the services of Sunrise Bushcraft to provide adventure days for residents of our homes. Utilising the wonderful forest on our doorstep, individuals will be able to forage for herbs, build shelters, take part in fun activities and really get back to nature! Our summer garden party was an owling success!

“Yesterday, Redcroft hosted its annual summer garden party and BBQ which featured an aviary professional delivering a live display with his barn owl, ‘Biscuit.’ Both Summerwood and Apple house also attended with invitations having been sent to the families of those whom we support across the three homes. This event offered a fantastic opportunity for residents and their families to socialise in their home in a relaxed, familiar environment and also to have the chance to meet new people and to build new friendships.  It was also a chance to show their families all the personal touches that they have added to truly make Redcroft their home. …

Accessible gardening…

There have been many studies that highlight the many benefits of accessible gardening.  This means that a garden, and gardening, is designed in such a way as to not form barriers to those with a wish to garden or to touch and enjoy the many sensory delights that a garden can yield. Our homes each have large and varied gardens:  Apple House has one hundred feet of lawn, of blooms and fruit trees that produce apples for baking.  Summerwood is in the process of further developing its sensory garden which is one of two quite distinct gardens private to the home, …

When Romaine Lawson, Director of Operations, was asked to re-home two cute guinea pigs it was impossible to say no, such is our residents’ love of pets!  Redcroft welcomed the new additions this week.  With a hutch in a shady spot in the garden, our newest pets are now neighbours to our chickens. …
