We are in The Guardian newspaper, and other updates…

Firstly, we hope you are staying safe and well during this unprecedented and difficult time which is bringing so many challenges to each and every one of us, those whom we support, our friends, colleagues, and loved ones. You may well have seen the extensive press coverage over the last few days about care homes and carers in relation to the pandemic. We were delighted to hear Mr Hancock announce that social carers will now be bracketed with NHS frontline staff, social care being the ‘second front line.’ This means a lot to our carers who will receive the new …

Let Us Entertain You…

Creating fun, practical activities whilst in lockdown generated a fantastical day of haircuts! The day began with discussions around work and our experiences of work. ‘T’ volunteered to be chief hairdresser-in-training and had a very measured approach. ‘D’ and ‘M’ really enjoyed the feeling of the clippers on their heads and then showing off their new look to the rest of the house! John was impressed with T’s work ethic (even though the last bits were touched up by Carly). Here are our before and after photos (shared with kind permission). — John Caslake, Registered Manager, Summerwood …

A message from Professor Martin Green, Care England: Dear public, Last week in response to the COVID19 outbreak the Government called upon retired nurses and doctors to return to work with the line ‘your NHS needs you’. Care England, the largest representative body for independent providers of adult social care, is complementing this message, ‘social care needs you too’. The adult social care sector too will require the support of the nation in the coming months if it is tocontinue to support some of society’s most vulnerable at these most worrying of times. We encourage those who are willing and able, to do …

Coronavirus Update…

Last evening the World Health Organisation (WHO) announced that coronavirus, COVID-19, was now classified as a worldwide pandemic. In turn the British Government are set to increase measures to ‘delay’ the spread of the virus in the UK. Here at Apple House care homes we want to reassure service users, their families, professionals, our staff and suppliers that we will deal with any suspected outbreak in accordance with published NHS and PHE guidelines. These guidelines cover what to do if a staff member or resident, or someone else connected to our homes, are diagnosed with COVID-19. Incorporating the NHS guidance …
